5 Liverpool transfers that could happen on deadline day - including first-team departure
Liverpool is expecting a quiet transfer deadline day, with no major incomings likely before the window shuts at 6 p.m. ET.
However, there could still be some outgoings before the market closes. In fact, over the last week five players have been linked with exits. Perhaps the most high-profile are Jayden Danns and James McConnell, both of whom started for Liverpool last week in the Champions League defeat to PSV Eindhoven.
Despite losing, the latter’s display stood out to such an extent that Arne Slot said he would consider retaining McConnell’s services for the remainder of the season. The Liverpool boss did also say a conversation would take place between himself and sporting director Richard Hughes to determine whether McConnell and Danns will leave on loan, although no update has since emerged.

Danns has played four times for the senior side this season and is seen as part of the first-team squad by Slot, who listed the academy graduate among his attacking options during a press conference last month. The 19-year-old has been linked with a host of Championship clubs during the window, but the latest report, which came via Football Insider, states Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers remain in the race.
Another figure who could depart on deadline day is Kaide Gordon. The winger, who is Liverpool’s second youngest-ever scorer, returned from a loan move at Norwich City last month and reports have since indicated he will leave again on another short-term deal.
The Athletic claimed on Sunday that Gordon will head to Portsmouth for the remainder of the 2024/25 season, with Liverpool feeling the south-coast club is the "best place for him to continue his development."
Luke Chambers is another player to watch ahead of deadline day. The left-back returned to Liverpool in October from a loan move at Wigan Athletic. Chambers has been undergoing rehab at Kirkby on a persistent back problem and manager Shaun Maloney revealed at the weekend that a decision could be made in the final hours of the window on whether he can feature again for the Latics in the second half of the season.
“We might have to wait until Monday evening on that one," said the former Wigan and Aston Villa midfielder. "I'm not sure how that looks percentage wise, but we'll give him every possible chance to come back. Liverpool are in regular contact with our medical staff, and I've stayed in contact with Luke. He's a great lad.
“If it happens and he comes back, then great...if not, we'll have to take it from there. But he was a great player for us and hopefully we haven't seen the last of him. That will be their call, they'll make that decision and in fairness, they've been absolutely brilliant with the whole thing. Whatever they think is right, we'll be fine with the decision.”
Finally, there could be a permanent first-team exit on the cards. Tyler Morton has played five games for the Reds in cup competitions this season and is a reported target for West Ham United.
The 22-year-old midfielder admitted after the FA Cup win over Accrington Stanley that he may have to consider his future due to the lack of playing time. “This month is obviously a big month for myself. It's decision time,” he explained.
“I think I'm ready to kick on now and ready to move up a step. If that's here or if that's somewhere else, football's football. I've got to go and be a bit selfish and go with however I feel.”
