Cyriel Dessers has reportedly been offered to Serie A side Monza as Rangers continue to clear the decks this month – and that could pave the way for a new striker to come in.

The Ibrox side are looking to offload some fringe players before more signings can arrive with Rabbi Matondo on the verge of sealing a move to Coventry City on loan with an option to buy, with Kieran Dowell another who has been put up for sale. Both of those exits would make room in the squad and on the wage bill, but the one that could really budge the needle is Dessers.

He has tumbled down the pecking order and now finds himself third choice behind Hamza Igamane and Danilo, but has maintained a strong enough vein of form that there is interest in his signature. Various clubs in Europe have expressed interest, with St Etienne, Cagliari, Empoli and Leganes among them. Now Nicolo Schira reports that Monza have joined the queue - with Dessers being 'offered' to the Serie A outfit. They paid £4.5m to sign him from Cremonese and likely want the bulk of that reimbursed to sell him now - although previous reports have suggested their demands cooled some interest from Spain.

If Dessers does go then Rangers need to sign a striker, and can't afford to lean on Igamane and Danilo for the rest of the season. That's the view of pundit Alan Hutton anyway who told Glasgow World: “Igamane has been outstanding. I think he came in at the start of the season and the manager was basically saying this is one for the future, he's not quite ready, we need to get him up to speed. We've seen flashes of him. He's different from Dessers, he likes to move about, he likes to get on the ball and make things happen and link up. But he's got an eye for a goal.

“If you give him an opportunity, he just shifts it and he rifles a shot in at goal. So, he's been a real find this season, and he's your number one go-to guy at the top end of the pitch. I still believe Dessers got a good number of goals.

“The problem is the misses that he has. But if he was to leave, I still believe you have to bring someone in. You've got Danilo there, Igamane. If anything was to happen, who do you turn to? So, if he was to go, you need to replace him with somebody. That's my only concern.

“So we've still got a couple of weeks left. We'll see how it goes. If one goes out, one has to must come in.”

Elsewhere West Ham are reportedly waiting to pounce on Vaclav Cerny with an £8m move in the pipeline for the in-form Rangers winger. Cerny has impressed on loan at Ibrox with 12 goals and seven assists since his loan from Wolfsburg.

The 27-year-old has reignited a career that was previously stagnating and his parent club, who once paid almost £7m to sign him from Twente, have pound signs in their eyes. Kicker report there is interest from the Premier League side in Cerny, zeroing in on Clement's admission that the Ibrox side cannot afford to sign him permanently – underlined by his increasing value in Wolfsburg's eyes. It's claimed they want £8m for him, which puts him outside of Rangers' price range, but firmly in West Ham's.

Elsewhere, reports linking Tom Lawrence with a move to Besiktas appear to have cooled as he focuses on a possible return to action at Old Trafford for Rangers in the Europa League. That comes 11 years on from when he first left Manchester United as a kid, and it will also be an emotional one for Jack Butland if he gets the nod after coming back from a health issue. He spent last season on loan with the Red Devils before his move to Scotland.
