Newcastle's preparations for the Carabao Cup final hit a major snag on Sunday.

The Magpies will meet Liverpool at Wembley in two weeks’ time and only have two players ruled out of the game, but there are plenty of other concerns after three fresh injury issues emerged at the weekend and Alexander Isak suffered a possible setback in the 2-1 FA Cup defeat at the hands of Brighton & Hove Albion at St. James' Park.

It was a busy post-match press conference for manager Eddie Howe, who had several updates to give. Here’s the latest on all Newcastle's selection concerns.

Anthony Gordon

The winger was sent off against Brighton on Sunday after a coming together with Jan Paul van Hecke. Gordon raised his arms to the Dutchman, with Anthony Taylor administering a straight red card - a decision that was upheld after a VAR check.

A suspension for violent conduct results in an automatic three-game ban, which will include Newcastle’s next two Premier League matches against West Ham United and Brentford, and the Carabao Cup final sandwiched in between. Newcastle could appeal the red card - although it seems unlikely that would be a success - and Howe said post-match that he will review the incident before coming to a decision.

Sven Botman

Having returned from a long-term knee injury in January, Botman and has picked up another issue since, although this one is not viewed as severe. Howe said ahead of Saturday’s game that he could have been in line to return, but wasn’t named in the matchday squad and was deemed ‘not 100 percent’.

Jamaal Lascelles

The ex-Nottingham Forest man hasn’t played in nearly a year since sustaining a serious knee injury last season. Howe did say last week that the center-back should hopefully return ‘towards the end of the season’.

Alexander Isak of Newcastle United.

Alexander Isak

Missed the midweek trip to Anfield in the Premier League with a minor groin issue but returned to the team on Sunday against Brighton. The Sweden star was then replaced in the 86th minute and appeared to be limping. “It was just general tiredness, I don't think there is a problem there,” said Howe after the game.

Kieran Trippier

The former Tottenham man was replaced in the latter stages of the Brighton game with a back issue, but Howe didn’t provide much more information. Trippier has fallen down the pecking order in recent months and has started just one of Newcastle's last eight Premier League matches.

Tino Livramento

The 22-year-old played the full 90 minutes at the weekend but Howe revealed after the game that he was struggling with cramp. It looks to be a minor issue amid the growing number of Newcastle concerns.

Lewis Hall

Missed out altogether on Sunday, just four days after impressing up against Mohamed Salah in the Premier League game. “Lewis has a foot problem, ankle problem after the Liverpool game,” said Howe. “He did not really recover well after the game so he has been to see a specialist after a scan. We are awaiting further news.”
