Liverpool could be without Diogo Jota for this weekend's trip to Brentford in the Premier League with the Portugal striker having felt a minor issue during his cameo off the bench against Nottingham Forest midweek.

Number nine Darwin Nunez is back from his suspension while Joe Gomez is the only other injured player that Liverpool has at the moment. He limped off against West Ham United in the final match of 2024 and is still expected to be sidelined.

"There is no doubt about his importance for us but he wasn't training, so we have to see today where he is," Arne Slot said on Jota during his press conference earlier today. "It's not sure he is available tomorrow, we'll see today. He felt a little bit when he came in, a niggle during the half-hour he came in.

"He finished the game but complained a bit about it. We'll see for tomorrow. Not because it's Jota but every player has their own program, 80 or 90 per cent is the same but every player has stuff they want to improve or to prevent a certain injury. So that is the same for all players, so there is a special program for every single player."

As for Brentford, Josh Dasilva, Ethan Pinnock, Kristoffer Ajer, Aaron Hickey and Igor Thiago are all expected to be missing. Former Liverpool players Fabio Carvalho and Sepp van den Berg, who signed for Thomas Frank in the summer, could both be involved.

Ahead of the game, Frank was asked about TalkSport whether or not Bryan Mbuemo could leave Brentford in January. "It’s very easy to answer… no chance," he replied.

Liverpool.com says: Brentford will provide a stern test for Liverpool but the Reds need to come out on top. After dropping a few points recently, a convincing win would put the pressure on Arsenal before it plays Aston Villa in the late kick-off.
