A 70-year-old squash star from Salisbury has won a national event after an outstanding season.

Retired police officer, Stuart Hardy has played squash all his life and has competed all over the world.

At the IProsports National Masters Championship, which finished on Sunday, February 9, he won gold in the over 70s category.

Stuart who plays at the thriving Five Rivers Squash Club in Salisbury has won the iconic British Open Masters, three Regional Opens events- the Karakal North, West and East of England Opens and now the National Championships.

In those five events, remarkably, he did not drop a game all season, in the best-of-five-game matches. A unique feat. He will next lead the England team in the Masters Internationals in April.

"I have been playing competitively for 45 years and now I have the knowledge and experience but I am not as strong and as fast as I used to be. I am still in the gym four times a week and I love keeping myself fit.

"I have always told myself I want to play the sport as well as I can for as long as I can, so I am very grateful I've been able to do it for this long."

As part of the committee for England Squash, Stuart wants the sport of squash to be for all ages.

He said: "It is such a sociable sport and I think it can be played by people of all ages and from all different backgrounds.

"We would love to grow the game of squash and get the word out there that it really is for everyone, I think I can prove that."
