Aaron Gordon: If you put my four dunks up against Vince Carter's, I think mine were better

.
.

AARON GORDON: A lot of people think you were robbed in that 2016 contest. Where do you feel like that year ranked among the all-time dunk contests? Personally, I think that was the best one. Of course, I know there’s a bit of nostalgia that plays into the 2000 dunk contest. And respectfully, Vince Carter is the GOAT—you know what I mean? But if you put my four dunks up against Vince Carter’s four dunks, objectively, I think my four dunks were better.

It was the end of an era! Vince Carter was gone, and I was wrecked. But Chris Bosh stepped in, leading the Raptors into a new era. From Donyell Marshall’s 12 threes to Vince’s dramatic return as a Net, year nine had it all. youtube.com/shorts/wC5jMIy… - 2:12 PM

More on this storyline

“What I wanted for the arm in the rim was for you to be in awe, and silent,” Carter said. “And I was able to accomplish that. And that was my first time ever trying that, that night. So, I could have been, obviously, I was on one of two sides of history – aw, man, you tried that dunk and you fell off, did whatever – or, you made it. So, it was just confidence. Once I got up there, if you back, if you ever look, I’m holding on the rim, and I have my eyes closed. And I’m holding on. Looking for silence.” -via New York Times / February 15, 2025

Carter was next. And he decided, on the spot, to junk the easier first dunk he’d planned to do for the more dangerous 360. “I tell you the truth,” Carter said. “That dunk, the first dunk, the reverse windmill. I had tried that, worked on it so many times, and could barely make that dunk in practice. But my adrenaline was so, so high, to where I said, ‘You know what? I think I can pull it off.’ And, that’s just what it was. KG was probably hyping me up from afar. Because I remember walking out on the court, all nervous, hands a little sweaty. I had just had surgery on my middle finger; if you go back and look, you see my fingers taped up. “I see (Jason) Kidd, Antawn, all the guys I either played college ball with or against, or in the pros. The excitement in these professionals’ — superstars’ — faces, with what I was going to do. I just gave ’em a show.” -via New York Times / February 15, 2025

AARON GORDON: And then 2020 happens. Dwyane Wade gives you a nine out of ten. I don’t forgive people easily, Aaron. Did you forgive him? I mean, clearly, I made a diss track about him, so no, I don’t forgive people that easily either. But yeah, I do forgive D-Wade. That said, when I look back at it, I can’t help but think—man, he was kind of hating a bit. -via YouTube / February 20, 2025

SGA is the favorite to win MVP, and the fatigue around it annoys me. I can't imagine how much it must annoy you guys. Make the case for your teammate. AARON GORDON: I mean, just look at the plus-minus when he's on the floor versus when he's off. When he's on, it's by far the best team in the league. When he's off? It's ugly. You know what I mean? That stat alone tells you everything. We're fixing that, but at the same time—yo, he got MVP last year, and he's even better this year. All of his numbers are up. He's shooting the ball better, averaging a triple-double. His numbers are better than Shai’s. I get that OKC is winning, but come on, bro. He's doing this while pulling 12 rebounds and 10 assists per game. What are we looking at here? This is one of the most ridiculous stat lines ever. -via YouTube / February 20, 2025

AARON GORDON: You know what was really dope? Seeing Jeff Green as a champion. That was fire. Seeing him enjoy himself, knowing how hard he’s worked—man, if anyone deserved to be a champion, it was Jeff. Watching him and the rest of the team turn up that night? That was really special." -via YouTube / February 20, 2025
