Aaron Jones injury update: Vikings RB carted off vs. Jaguars, returns

The Minnesota Vikings had their full complement of offensive weapons available for just the second time in Week 10, but it didn't last long.

The team's workhorse running back, Aaron Jones, suffered a chest injury in the third quarter of a 12-7 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. He returned to the game after X-rays came back clean.

Here's what to know about Jones' injury and his status for the rest of the Week 10 game and beyond.

Aaron Jones injury update

Jones was injured late in the third quarter of the Jaguars and Vikings game. He missed a bit of the third quarter and a good chunk of the fourth before returning to action on the final two drives of the game.

The veteran running back detailed after the game that he had X-rays on his chest that came back "clear," per ESPN's Kevin Seifert. Jones just had to "gather himself" before returning to the game.

Jones' injury occurred after he took a 7-yard carry up the middle of the field before being sandwiched by Trevon Walker and Foye Oluokun. The veteran running back took a hard shot to each side during the carry and was slow to get up. He started to walk toward the sideline but eventually took a knee, allowing medical staff to tend to him on the field.

Jones entered the blue medical tent and didn't return to the field during Minnesota's field goal drive. He later emerged and was seen trying to jog on the sidelines but was eventually carted into the locker room.

The Vikings then announced that Jones was "questionable" to return with a chest injury. He was able to do so for the final two drives of the game.

Who is Aaron Jones' backup on Vikings depth chart?

Cam Akers is currently Jones' backup. The Vikings acquired the veteran running back ahead of the 2024 NFL trade deadline, and he eventually took the No. 2 back role away from Ty Chandler.

Akers entered Sunday's game with 193 yards and a touchdown on 46 carries, most of which came with the Houston Texans.

Aaron Jones stats

Jones finished Sunday's game with 101 total yards on 19 touches. He entered the game with 810 scrimmage yards and three total touchdowns on the season.
