Aberdeen have suffered a double injury blow with both Vicente Besuijen and Jack Milne ruled out for several months.

Dutch winger Besuijen, who picked up his injury in the 1-1 draw with St Johnstone, had looked to revive his Reds career under Jimmy Thelin in recent months after being frozen out of the side.

He has however suffered a major setback, with the Dons boss confirming he will miss 16 weeks of action having undergone a successful surgery.

Milne meanwhile has also gone under the knife and is beginning his recovery, and he will be on the shelf for 12 weeks, with both now set to miss a huge chunk of the season.

Besuijen is now not expected back in action until mid-April, while Milne's earliest return could be mid-March towards the business end of the season.

An Aberdeen statement on social media read: "The manager has this afternoon confirmed to the media that Vicente Besuijen & Jack Milne have both undergone surgery.

"Vinnie will be out for up to 16 weeks with Jack missing for around 12 weeks. We wish them both a speedy recovery."

The latest injuries come at a damaging time for the Dons, who are going into battle with Hibs this weekend winless in five Premiership outings.

They also have Pape Habib Gueye on the sidelines, with Besuijen's injury another blow to the forward ranks, while Dimitar Mitov is out until January, with Ross Doohan stepping into his position in goal.

Mitov's injury also prompted the early recall of Tom Ritchie from his loan away from Pittodrie at Bonnyrigg Rose.
