Kal Naismith is reportedly on Aberdeen's transfer radar after former Rangers ace Andy Halliday dropped a major teaser to Dons fans.

Jimmy Thelin has splashed the cash so far this January, bringing in Kristers Tobers and Alexander Jensen for over £1million while also securing Alfie Dorrington and Jeppe Okkels on loan deals.

The Reds boss vowed to improve the squad which has been decimated by injuries in recent weeks, with Jensen and Dorrington bolstering a defence that recently lost Gavin Molloy to injury and Slobodan Rubezic to suspension.

More additions are expected over the coming weeks, and Halliday teased the Red Army with his revelation on the radio on Monday night.

The Motherwell midfielder was discussing Aberdeen's transfer dealings, adding he expected the Dons to rediscover their early season form thanks to their new signings.

He went on to add that he knew of a "good friend" who was potentially on the brink of being signed by Thelin, and Not The Old Firm have now revealed he was referring to his pal Naismith.

The Scottish defender has struggled for minutes at Bristol City, failing to feature in the squad since November having only made six appearances for the Championship outfit where former Dons ace Ross McCrorie currently plays.

Not the Old Firm is reporting that Aberdeen are keen to land the versatile 32-year-old on loan for the rest of this season, with the defender out of contract at Ashton Gate and free to leave in the summer.

Naismith can play at centre-back or in either full-back position, and it is understood the Reds are pushing for a deal to be done but it hinges on the former Rangers defender's wishes.

Halliday played alongside Naismith at Ibrox before the latter moved down the leagues and eventually left for Accrington Stanley.

He went on to star for Stanley and Portsmouth in Leagues Two and One before securing moves to Wigan and Luton in England's second tier.

After helping the Hatters to the promotion play-offs, he turned down a new deal to join Bristol City where he currently remains.
