Aberdeen Women secure vital victory over Montrose in SWPL clash as Dons move up to eighth
Aberdeen Women battled to a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Montrose at Links Park on Wednesday night, securing back-to-back wins in the Women’s Premier League.
Fresh off a 3-0 triumph over Queen’s Park, Scott Booth’s side showed determination against a physical Montrose team, with Chloe Gover and Hannah Stewart netting the decisive goals.
Aberdeen started strongly, with Amie Black hitting the crossbar from a corner after just three minutes. The breakthrough came in the 13th minute, when Gover curled a stunning free-kick into the top corner, giving the visitors a deserved lead.

Montrose, however, refused to be outplayed. Their relentless pressing forced a defensive mistake from McCann, allowing Holly Daniel to round the keeper and equalise in the 33rd minute.

The home side then piled on the pressure before halftime, with Daniel almost adding a second from a corner. With the score level at the break, the second half began with the same intensity.
Montrose’s high press continued to trouble the Dons, but Aberdeen regained the lead in the 54th minute after a defensive error. Goalkeeper Armitage’s misplaced pass was pounced on by Kerry Beattie, who unselfishly squared the ball for Stewart to tuck away, sealing her second goal in as many games.

Aberdeen almost extended their lead through Nicola Jamieson, whose header rattled the crossbar. Montrose pushed for a late equaliser, winning successive corners in stoppage time, but Aberdeen’s defence held firm to secure a crucial three points.
The win takes Aberdeen up to eighth in the table, as they look to continue their momentum in the SWPL.
