REPAIRS to the storm-damaged roof of Cappielow’s Cowshed will not be carried out in time for Morton’s upcoming home matches, club bosses have confirmed.

Sections of the stand’s metal covering were torn off last month by the 90 miles an hour winds that Storm Eowyn brought to the area.

At present, the damage inflicted by the storm looks set to affect access to Cappielow's Cowshed for their upcoming fixtures against Airdrie, Hamilton and Falkirk.

In an update issued today, Ton officials have said the required maintenance works have been identified and that their insurers and contractors are in the process of drawing up a full timeline plan for them.

However, as the work will not be completed in time for the Ton’s run of fixtures this month, the club has taken the decision to limit access to the Cowshed and move fans to other areas in order to maximise Cappielow’s capacity.

This means there will be no access to any part of the Cowshed which is covered, including the area affected by the storm.

The Sinclair Street terrace will remain open as normal and access to toilets and the catering kiosk in the Cowshed will be maintained through the back corridor.

The club has confirmed a small, uncovered section of the Cowshed will remain open, located next to the turnstiles which are adjacent to the Sinclair Street end.

All away fans will be housed in the Wee Dublin End as the club has made the decision to let home supporters use sections F and G of the main stand, which are normally reserved for traveling fans.

Those who hold Cowshed season tickets who wish to relocate to the main stand for upcoming matches are asked to get in touch with the club by contacting admin@gmfc.net before 4pm this Friday, February 14 to arrange temporary tickets for the main stand.

Season ticket holders or match ticket holders looking to move to the Main Stand should make sure that they do so for matches against Airdrie on February 15, Hamilton on February 18 and Falkirk on February 21.

Club officials have promised to give a further update on the situation in advance of the Ton’s home match with Ayr United on March 8.

They have also stated that a floodlight affected by the bad weather will be repaired early this week.

A club spokesperson said: “Given the scale of work required across various parts of the country for those affected by the storm, as well as the supply of materials and complex nature of the job, we are working hard with the insurer and contractors to get the situation resolved quickly, but most importantly correctly and safely.”

They added: “We understand that this is not an ideal situation at present and appreciate the patience and understanding from supporters during this challenging time.”
