Adam Hinshelwood refutes Wycombe links and reaffirms loyalty to City
ADAM HINSHELWOOD has reaffirmed his loyalty to York City by refuting potential interest in the Wycombe Wanderers role.
After Wycombe confirmed the departure of first-team manager Matt Bloomfield to Championship side Luton Town in midweek, the bookies have listed Hinshelwood as a potential replacement for his former teammate.
Hinshelwood has previous relations with Wycombe, having represented the club as a player, and guiding York to a narrow 3-2 defeat to the League One promotion hopefuls earlier in the season.
However, Hinshelwood has denied any contact between Wycombe and himself, with the boss admitting that he hopes to grow and develop with City.
“Honestly, nothing has been put to me or my agent or anything,” Hinshelwood confirmed.
“I’m extremely happy where I am, I feel like I’m at a club where I can develop as a coach and as a manager and can move up the leagues.
“I feel the club can do that, and that’s what I want to do.
“In my opinion, there’s not been no success yet really.
“We’ve had a run of games but we’ve got 22 games to go, let’s see what success looks like at the end of the season.
“Nothing has been achieved and we’ve done nothing yet, so we’re fully focused on the job at hand.
“We want to finish better than we did last season, and if we did do that then that would be a success.
“There’s always going to be speculation if a team does well, but that’s all it is, and I can honestly say that.
“I’ve got an agent now, it’s been put out there, but I’m not actively asking them to put my name about as I’m very happy where I am.
“I’m at a big club and a club that matches my ambitions, so my future I see very much at York.
“I want to stay here for years to come, build something, move up the leagues and test myself as a manager here.”
Hinshelwood also responded to any potential pressure that his players might face in cementing their push for promotion, with York potentially being able to move five points clear at the top of the National League, should they win games in hand against Oldham Athletic and Maidenhead United.
The City boss denied any potential pressure, with focus remaining on today’s match against Sutton United at the LNER Community Stadium (3pm) and admitted that he just wanted to finish on a higher points tally than last campaign.
Hinshelwood laughed: “It’s going to sound like a real cliché answer, but it’s the truth that we’re not getting too carried away.
“It’s out of our control really, and with the pressure, no one really expected us to be in this position so I don’t think there’s any pressure on us.
“I’ve always said that we want to get more points than last season, so that’s not been achieved yet and that’s still the target.
“I know it’s not what everybody wants to hear or what the fans what to hear, they want us to say that we’re in a great position and are going for the title, but it’s definitely not the case.
“We’re not getting too carried away with it, we’re taking it game by game and seeing where we end up at the end of the season.
“It’s not something to get carried away with yet, we’ve still got 22 games to play for and loads of points up for grabs.
“Our full focus is Sutton on Saturday, and we’re not going to take our eye off that.”
