ADAM HINSHELWOOD is eager to regain some momentum after York City were forced to go two weeks without a match.

Postponements to York’s National League fixtures against Maidenhead United and then Rochdale meant that City had to sit on their 1-0 defeat to Gainsborough Trinity in the FA Trophy for 14 days, with a return to action tomorrow afternoon against Sutton United at the LNER Community Stadium (3pm).

Hinshelwood admitted that the break in schedule has not been ideal, especially with three matches in York’s next seven days, and currently has no concerns for the playing surface of Saturday's match.

“It’s a bit frustrating because we want to keep a bit of a rhythm of playing,” Hinshelwood admitted.

“We’ve gone from not playing for two weeks, to then having three games in the course of seven days.

“It’s a bit extreme and is something we’ve got to adapt to.

“It’s great to have the game on and we just want to go and get back into some sort of rhythm again.

“As far as I’m aware, it’s been a bit frosty over the past couple of mornings, but I’m hoping that by the time three o’clock comes, it should be all good. It’s nice to get a game on.

“There’s always slight concern when that happens, but you can look at it as a positive.

“All of these Premier League teams have two weeks off and get a Winter break, they all go to a nice hot climate, which might be the only difference.

“We can use it as a positive, saying that we haven’t played and [other] teams have played.

“We’ve got to make sure that we use that to our advantage, and I want to see a real fast tempo.

“I want us to play at a good intensity when we haven’t got the ball, that is going to be really important.

“When you haven’t had a game, it should allow us to do that.

“When the team is playing and has got some rhythm and some momentum, that seems to help as well.

“That’s what we’re hoping, it’s more a case of us looking for pressure and playing at a high intensity, that’s what we want to get back to.

Hinshelwood is also anticipating a welcome return to the LNER Community Stadium tomorrow afternoon, with it being just City’s second match on home turf since the turn of the year.

The boss admitted that he is just like a fan in his excitement for home matches, and has plans to utilise the stadium as something of a fortress for the remainder of the campaign.

“I’m just like a fan, I’m looking forward to seeing them perform.

“It’s been a couple of weeks without watching them perform and I’m looking forward to seeing them, especially at home.

“They’ve been performing well and the performances have been good, other than Gateshead, who score lots of goals, we still create chances but just didn’t take them on that day.

“We want to get back to that, find some momentum.

“Even at Gainsborough in the first-half, I thought that we played some really good stuff and looked like we should’ve been leading at half-time but just left ourselves open.

“We’re keen to get back out and perform in front of the home fans.

“We want to make it a bit of a fortress between now and the end of the season, and keep the momentum there.”

The match against Sutton could also bring the returns of Alex Woodyard and Will Davies, who both joined the visitors this season.

Hinshelwood said on their return: “There’s always that little added incentive there when you go back to a former club, you want to impress and show what you can do.

"We’ve had that with a few players this season that have returned to York, and I think that Saturday will be no different to that."
