Airdrie's Ben Wilson: Draw can be turning point for me and Diamonds in relegation scrap
Airdrie ace Ben Wilson hopes landing their first point on the board in over three months can be the catalyst for him and the Diamonds to kick on in their relegation dogfight.
The striker was at the double on Saturday in a 2-2 draw at home to Morton, which took rock bottom Airdrie to within nine points of nearest rivals Dunfermline at the foot of the Championship.
He scored from the penalty spot to make it 1-1 after 35 minutes and grabbed a second leveller 11 minutes from time to end a run of seven straight league defeats.

It was also Wilson’s first league goals for the club and ended an 18-game barren spell for him in front of goal.
Wilson said: “It was very nice to score but you can never get too high or too low. I was delighted to break a run of games with no goals, and hopefully I can build on that now and get some more.
“I was always going to step up and take the penalty for my first equaliser. I’m the penalty taker at the club and I’ll always take that responsibility. When I was taking it, the goal drought wasn’t playing on my mind at all. I was backing myself to score.
“It’s great to get off the mark in the league with two goals. It’s been a wee bit tough in recent weeks, but I’ve found my feet now. It definitely feels like a turning point, in terms of the game and the overall performance.”
Airdrie host Livingston tomorrow night and they then welcome Partick Thistle to New Broomfield on Saturday in their final game ahead of Christmas, before a Lanarkshire derby at Hamilton Accies on December 28.
Wilson added: “We have three big games coming up and with positive results we could be in a much better position and moving in a better direction.
“So, if we can win on Tuesday and get something on Saturday, we can hopefully climb the table and things could look a lot different.
“It’s been a tough run but it’s been all about sticking together through the tough times and knuckling down. We got ourselves into this situation and we can get ourselves out of it.
“We have the belief all through the squad that we can get out of bottom place. And as a striker, two goals will do a lot for my confidence.”
