Ipswich Town striker Ali Al-Hamadi now looks unlikely to join West Brom this transfer window, the EADT and Ipswich Star understands.

The Championship club, who have recently appointed Tony Mowbray as their new boss, were keen on signing the 22-year-old striker on a permanent deal this month.

It's understood, however, that the move has now broken down.

Al-Hamadi joined Ipswich for a £1m + add-ons deal from League Two club AFC Wimbledon last January. He subsequently helped Kieran McKenna's men secure promotion to the Premier League, scoring four goals in one start and 13 substitute appearances.

The Liverpool-born, Iraqi international underwent surgery on a troublesome groin issue as soon as the campaign ended and had a limited pre-season as a result.

Despite an injury to George Hirst, he's found his chances limited in the top-flight. His 11 substitute appearances in the Premier League total just 125 minutes.

He started a League Cup game at his former club AFC Wimbledon back in August and also the recent FA Cup win against Bristol Rovers, putting a penalty wide in the latter.

Al-Hamadi is currently the third-choice striker at Portman Road behind Liam Delap and the fit-again Hirst. McKenna has intimated that he wouldn't let Al-Hamadi leaves unless he could bring another striker in this month.
