The pundits are in full agreement on Liverpool vs Manchester United today, with the Reds being backed to secure a big win against their biggest rival.

Despite fears that the game would be postponed after snow across the north-west of the UK, the two sides will meet at Anfield later with very different ambitions this season. Liverpool could not be much further apart from United, with 23 points separating the two teams ahead of kick-off.

While Liverpool sits top of the Premier League, and could go eight points clear after Arsenal dropped points against Brighton on Saturday, United is languishing in 14th, with new boss Ruben Amorim even suggesting recently that they could be in a relegation battle after losing five of their last six league games.

The hosts are therefore heavy favorites to win today, and the pundits are expecting a big win for Arne Slot’s side. Alan Shearer is among the usual suspects to have predicted a comfortable victory for Liverpool this afternoon.

“Newcastle went to Old Trafford and for 30 minutes made Man United look like a youth team, they were really that poor,” Shearer told Betfair. “I can't see United improving that much to get anything from this game and I'd be amazed if they did.

“I know it's a huge fixture and it's produced some great games over the years, but I can only see one winner in this game and it's Liverpool.

“If United are as poor as they were in the opening half an hour against Newcastle, then you would be really worried for this one as a fan. They would have to improve massively, with the number of chances Liverpool create you would really fear for Man United in this one.

“Having said that, they sat deep and defended against Man City last month, winning that game by trying to hit them on the break. That's the way they'll try to play this game, but this Liverpool team I think are different gravy this season, so I wouldn't imagine that will be too much of a problem for them.

“I can't see any other outcome than a Liverpool victory and scoring a few goals in the process.”

Chris Sutton, meanwhile, didn’t hold back in his prediction as he tipped Liverpool for a 5-0 win, with Amorim’s side expected to suffer.

“The scoreline won't hit double figures but anything else is possible, and that is me being nice to United,” Sutton told BBC Sport. “Liverpool should demolish them, and they will demolish them - it is just a question of how many goals they get.

“United will play for pride, play for the badge and for the jersey and all of that, but it won't make any difference.

“Liverpool are in a different stratosphere at the moment and I feel sorry for Amorim because this is going to be another painful afternoon for him.”

Paul Merson was a little kinder to United as he predicted just a 3-0 win for Liverpool, although the former Arsenal midfielder hit out at Amorim for his recent comments.

“Is this a big game anymore? Let’s be honest now,” Merson told Sportskeeda. “You’re talking about one of the biggest games of the calendar in the Premier League but it’s a farce. There’s not a single Manchester United fan in this country who is looking forward to this game! It would be the biggest shock of the season if United win at Anfield.”

Merson added: “I just can’t see United getting anything from this game. I also think it’s inappropriate for Amorim to be saying they are close to a relegation battle. He needs to adapt quickly to the Premier League. Unless Andre Onana has an absolute blinder, Manchester United have no chance in this game. They follow this game up with Arsenal in the FA Cup and I expect them to lose that as well!”
