Alan Shearer request to Alexander Isak granted as unseen move from legend pays off in style
Alan Shearer took a moment at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to take in just what modern day Newcastle United have at their disposal in their forward department these days.
Stood alongside his former partner in crime Les Ferdinand, Shearer watched the Newcastle warm-up intently as Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon almost took the net off with some venomous strikes ahead of the big game. Shearer used to make a habit of not firing in a howitzer of two during warm-ups as he wanted to "save it" for the encounter ahead.
But both Gordon and Isak were out not only to impress Big Al but also to take it into the game with them as they notched one each. Shearer and Ferdinand once netted 49 goals between them before an absurd decision to split them up when they were both in their prime at St James' Park.

With Isak on 14 goals for the season now and Gordon now on five, it feels like there is a lot more to come from the pair. Shearer, speaking to Premier League productions, had asked for a "scruffy" goal from Isak and he was rewarded with exactly that, the legendary number 9 said: "It's a brilliant goal! You are looking for your winger to get the ball in the middle and it is up to the centre-forward to do anything to get something on the end of that.
"The last touch was Isak's but if you watch Isak's movement he gets into that position you have to as a striker, that's where you score your scruffy goals. That's where I think he can do a bit better and be an even better centre-forward than he is.
"You don't get two goals for scoring outside the box and those scruffy ones meant more to me than the 30-yarders."
After the game, Isak, chatting to Shearer, admitted: "I feel the same, and I spoke to my team-mates. Those goals are the best ones!
"I feel very good and the energy within the group is amazing. I feel like we are going into games very confident.
"If you look only two months ago, it wasn't as positive. The energy wasn't the same. But one result can change things. We have worked hard to get where we are now."
Newcastle's team bus pulled out of Spurs on Saturday afternoon with the mood high in the Toon camp. But they must now raise their game again for the Carabao Cup clash at Arsenal.
It's a game that Shearer feels Isak is in exactly the right frame of mind for. Shearer then added: "He is on fire at the minute and he has that belief about him. Arrogance too in a really good way. I don't mean to be disrespectful when I say that, but you need that as a centre-forward. He's got that. He is walking out on to the field."
