Alan Shearer has had his say on Marcus Rashford’s transfer from Manchester United to Aston Villa.

Rashford has joined Villa on loan from the Red Devils until the end of the season and the Villans have an option in the deal to make his transfer to Villa Park permanent for £40m in the summer.

Shearer believes Rashford, who has been given the No.9 shirt by Villa, has the chance to silence his critics, having been frozen out at Old Trafford and had his professionalism questioned by United manager Ruben Amorim. But he also questions if Amorim is wrong about the player given previous United managers are also said to have had issues with him.

“It’s a real pivotal point now for Rashford. (Amorim) is not the only manager to throw questions at Rashford,” Shearer said on the Rest Is Football podcast. “It’s best he gets out and it’s now up to him.

“He’s got the opportunity to get back to where he was years ago and stop all the talk about whether he’s got the right attitude and wants to play football enough.

“He’s had people criticise him, he thinks unfairly, but I don’t think everyone can be wrong in terms of the managers who’ve had a pop, so he’s now got the chance to get his career back on track.”
