Alan Shearer told PIF plans for Alexander Isak as Newcastle United legend shuts down Paul Merson dream

Alan Shearer has revealed he told Alexander Isak to get "angry" with his team-mates if the service at Newcastle United was not up to scratch.

The club legend famously blew his top with David Ginola just six weeks after his record breaking £15million move to St James' Park from Blackburn Rovers. Shearer confronted Ginola over a failure to put the ball in the danger area after the striker made runs but then saw the Frenchman cut inside defenders a second time with the Geordie star then a marked man!

Shearer used the vital lesson and passed it on to Isak who had confessed to him that the service was not always perfect. But after Jacob Murphy served up two wonderful opportunities on a silver platter at Spurs, one scored and one missed, things now seem to be ticking for the Magpies.

Shearer told Premier League productions: "I spoke to him a year ago and he told me he wanted the ball. I told him to demand it, tell them.

"If they don't put it in there, get angry with them when they don't. And eventually, they will put it in there."

Isak's tally of 14 goals now means he is handily placed in the top scorer charts alongside the likes of Mo Salah, Erling Haaland and Cole Palmer. This has resulted in plenty of talk of a January move with Arsenal legend Paul Merson telling the Gunners to break the bank.

But Shearer had the perfect answer to Merson and revealed he'd been told Isak is going nowhere.

Shearer said: "He could play for any team in the Premier League I have no doubt about that but I am not sure there are many that can afford him. They bought him for around £60million, goodness knows what the transfer fee would be now if they had to sell him.

"They (the club's owners) have no desire to sell him. I know that.

"But if they had to, for whatever reason, it would be for an unbelievable amount of money that would have to be shown to Newcastle for them to even contemplate it."

Shearer was appearing on a global broadcast with former strike partner Les Ferdinand who backed up the fact, Newcastle are under no pressure to sell their main man with the star contracted until 2028.

Ferdinand said: "There are a lot of people asking why teams put players on six or seven-year contracts. The reason why is they can keep them for a few more years without having a panic attack."
