Alan Shearer returns to our screens this weekend as part of the BBC's FA Cup coverage and will be on hand to offer words of wisdom on Manchester City's clash with local League Two rivals Salford City.

The legendary former Newcastle United and England striker - who is the Premier League's all-time record goalscorer - has become one of the most respected pundits in the country since retiring from playing in 2006, and has also transitioned into the commentary box.

But away from football, the 54-year-old - who has a reported net worth of around £40 million thanks to his huge £380,000 BBC salary and roles with Amazon and Al-Jazeera - is a proud husband and father.

The ex-Blackburn Rovers and Southampton star has been married to his long-term partner Lainya for nearly 34 years, having met while he was playing for the Saints. Shearer has previously explained that his wife likes to shy away from the limelight herself, but he has still mentioned her in a few amusing anecdotes in recent years.

Asked about his 1992 move from the Southampton to Blackburn on an episode of The Rest is Football, the former striker said that then-pregnant Lainya had a blunt response to the transfer. He recalled: "When she was eight months pregnant... she looked at me in the car and said, 'What the f*** have you done?'"

Shearer also has a 24-year-old son, Will, and two daughters, Chloe, 31 and Hollie, 29. All three have a sizeable following on social media, with Will boasting 16,000 followers on Instagram, Chloe close to 20,000 and Hollie topping the lot with a whopping 82,000.

Hollie is a pop singer, with her top singer on Spotify garnering around 1.5 million listens. She also has a major presence on TikTok, where she shares fashion and lifestyle videos and has close to 335,000 followers.

Chloe, meanwhile, is in talent management and most recently worked on Soccer Aid, with the two sisters sharing a common theme when it comes to their other halves.

Both women are in relationships with rugby players, with Hollie getting engaged to England international Joe Marchant in November. The 28-year-old, who currently plays for French side Stade Francais, popped the question in Paris, with Hollie showing off the huge diamond ring in front of the Eiffel Tower.

The couple confirmed their relationship in April 2022, while they moved in together in the French capital last year. Since the relationship began, Shearer said his daughter had taken a keener interest in rugby than football.

The former Newcastle star also gave his verdict on Marchant, joking that he was "just glad it's not a footballer" before confirming that he was happy with his daughter's choice of partner.

Meanwhile, Chloe, meanwhile, is dating ex-scrum-half Micky Young. The 35-year-old spent much of his time at Newcastle Falcons over two spells but left the North East club last year, spending his last year at Gloucester.

In August, Newcastle announced that Young had been awarded a testimonial year, during which one of the events will be a football dinner with Shearer himself.
