Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has insisted he would not accept a £150m bid for star striker Alexander Isak should one be submitted by Arsenal, or any other club, in the January transfer window.

Isak has been the Magpies' most important player this season and he was back among the goals on Tuesday night as the Toon beat Arsenal 2-0 in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final at the Emirates Stadium. The Swede used all of his smarts to shrug off Martin Odegaard before firing into the roof of the net.

The goal was Isak's 15th of the season and continued what has been a tremendously consistent spell for the striker since making the move from Real Sociedad. On the latest Q&A episode of The Rest is Football, Shearer was asked by a listener whether he would accept a £150m bid for Isak, should it arrive, from Arsenal.

His response was emphatic. "No is the answer [I would not take £150m for Alexander Isak]," Shearer said. "Who are they going to go out and get, who would go into Newcastle and do a similar job? We know that centre-forward is the most important position.

"He is one of the reasons why they are sitting in fifth and in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup. What are the fans going to do with the money?

"No, I would absolutely not [accept £150m]." When asked by fellow co-presenter Micah Richards how much he would accept for Isak, Shearer was adamant that the striker is priceless.

"You go out and spend £50-60m on another striker, who, what, where? They are really difficult to find," he explained.

"When you have got a b***** good one, why let them go for any price? If they have got to sell for PSR (Profit and Sustainability Rules) reasons, there are other players that I would sell, before I sold Isak for £150m."
