Albion Rrahmani Rangers transfer stumbling block as Celtic hero Neil Lennon makes vow on striker

Neil Lennon has vowed to keep Albion Rrahmani at Rapid Bucharest amid Rangers' interest in the striker.

The Light Blues were said to be ready to swoop for the highly-rated 23-year-old and he appeared to be saying goodbye to fans of the Romanian side after their last match. There were reports that the Ibrox club had the £6million rated man closely monitored and were set to swoop in the summer.

Rrhamani hit 17 goals for Rapid last season in a campaign which they challenged for the title before falling away towards the end. Lennon has been appointed to try and raise standards again and insists he has no intention of allowing his new team's star striker to leave.

The Northern Irishman, who was appointed yesterday, met the media today and said: "I don't want him to leave anywhere. He a it a top player and goalscorers are a valuable commodity to the team.

"They are very important players and he has had a fantastic season. That is a discussion that we hope will take place but I can't control that at the minute."

Rangers are said to be close to the signings of two defenders in Jefte and Jose Cordoba and Motherwell goalkeeper Liam Kelly who will seal a return to the club six years after moving on.
