Aleksander Isak £150m transfer logic as Arsenal's Mikel Arteta opens up on Newcastle United star
Newcastle United striker Aleksander Isak is in red-hot form ahead of the trip to Arsenal in the Carabao Cup semi-final on Tuesday. The frontman has scored in his last seven games as part of a red-hot goalscoring streak.
The Swede notched his 13th goal of the season when he tapped home the winning goal on Saturday against Tottenham Hotspur. It took Isak into fourth place in the charts of Newcastle's Premier League all-time top scorers, only behind Alan Shearer, Callum Wilson and Peter Beardsley.
The form of the 25-year-old has seen him consistently linked with a move away from St James' Park. While other clubs sat on their hands three years ago, Newcastle swooped to land the player in a £63million deal that increasingly looks like a bargain.

The Magpies have no intention of selling Isak this transfer window, but that hasn't stopped pundits like Paul Merson claiming Arsenal should try and sign Isak this month. And while Eddie Howe admitted in his preview of the Arsenal game that 'the business logic is taking over from the football logic' when it comes to transfers this month, there remains no suggestion that Isak will be sold anytime soon by Newcastle. Even a £150m deal would be illogical at this point of the season.
Instead, they are counting on the forward to continue firing them towards a European finish this season. Before then, however, they take on Arsenal in a two-legged semi-final bidding to end a 70-year wait for a domestic trophy.
The Gunners have long been linked with a move for Isak as manager Mikel Arteta continues his quest for the Premier League crown. They alternate between Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz leading the line, with Isak seen as a significant upgrade on the pair.
And when Arteta was asked about the Swedish star in his post-match media briefing, he admitted to being an admirer. "He's a top player, he's in top form scoring a lot of goals," said the Spaniard.
Whether Arsenal look to strengthen this window remains in doubt, despite a crippling injury list which saw teenager Ethan Nwaneri limp out of their game at the weekend. He is unfit for the first leg at the Emirates, with Arteta saying: "Unfortunately, he has picked up an injury and is going to be out for a few weeks."
Bukayo Saka and Ben White also remain long-term absentees for the Gunners. Havertz missed out for the second successive match, was unable to train, and was sent home before the trip to Brighton. Martin Odegaard was also affected, couldn't train and only made the bench, while Gabriel Martinelli joined him after suffering a knock following the clash with Brentford, although both could start against Newcastle.
The injury situation, however, has led to speculation that Arsenal will look to add at least one body to their squad before the window closes. "What happens in the market, we are very alert," added Arteta when asked whether he could sign anyone. "It's not a yes, it's not a no."
