Liverpool could look to bolster its attack with a blockbuster transfer for Alexander Isak, according to a report. And the Newcastle striker has already made his feelings about Anfield clear.

It was against Liverpool in early December that Isak truly kick-started his hot streak, the first of eight Premier League games in a row in which he found the net. It's a sequence which has seen his transfer value shoot up, with Arne Slot's side apparently among the interested parties.

For its part, Liverpool sits atop the Premier League and Champions League tables, with firepower not having been a major issue. But the future of Mohamed Salah remains uncertain, and the jury is somehow still out on expensive forward Darwin Nunez, who earned back a few of his wavering supporters with an important brace against Brentford.

According to Football Transfers, Liverpool has shown "persistent" interest in Isak. And while another report suggests Newcastle could demand $247m (£200m), a transfer might not be entirely beyond the realms of possibility.

That's because Isak himself appears to have a positive view of Liverpool. While Newcastle no doubt wants to reach the point where players see St James' Park as a final destination, the allure of Anfield could yet prove significant.

The 25-year-old is certainly settled at Newcastle. And he has spoken in glowing terms about the club:

"There are not many places like St James’ Park," Isak previously told Amazon Prime, via Newcastle World. "The atmosphere is very special and I think you can judge a stadium, not just on the atmosphere but how difficult it is to come as an away team.

“It’s a special place. I think people have a hard time coming to the stadium."

However, unprompted, he also threw Liverpool into the mix.

“I’d say Anfield is probably up there as well," Isak added. "The atmosphere is really good - it’s probably the toughest away game.”

Apart from being a bitter blow to the cranks who insist that the Anfield atmosphere is a myth, this shows the respect that Isak has for Liverpool. He clearly likes to play in front of passionate fans, and rates the Reds as among the very best around.

Would the prospect of playing in front of those supporters every week appeal to him? You'd have to assume that it would, even if there's nothing to suggest he will be pushing for a Newcastle exit any time soon.

Ultimately, it will be the finances that decides whether a deal is possible, and the answer may well be no. But if Liverpool's interest is as persistent and genuine as the latest report suggests, Isak's attitude does not seem like it will be a stumbling block.

Liverpool.com says: Newcastle is doing very well, and is steadily on track to break into the footballing elite. The size of its backing makes that almost inevitable eventually.

With this goal in mind, keeping hold of Isak will no doubt be right at the top of the priority list. But there's no denying that Liverpool is higher up the pecking order right now, and probably will be for the remainder of Isak's peak years.

Even so, it's hard to see him agitating for a move, despite his clear admiration for Liverpool. But if he is available for transfer, and the Reds are prepared to throw their own financial weight about, it would certainly be a statement addition.
