Alexander Isak has sent Arsenal the perfect message ahead of the summer transfer window. The 25-year-old striker has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium for a few years now as he continues to impress for Newcastle United.

Since returning from a toe injury in October, Isak has featured 17 times in the Premier League, scoring 16 goals and providing four assists. The Sweden international has played a key role in Eddie Howe's side, helping the Magpies climb to sixth in the table.

He's also helped Newcastle reach the Carabao Cup final, finding the net against Chelsea in the fourth round and Arsenal in the first leg of the semi-final. Isak had just as much of an impact in the reverse fixture against the Gunners – even if he didn't etch his name onto the scoresheet.

According to Gary Neville, who was co-commentary duties at St. James' Park for Sky Sports, Isak had Gabriel Magalhães and William Saliba 'on toast'. The former Manchester United defender said: "It’s all about Isak.

"He’s messing the Arsenal centre-backs about! Look at him up against Saliba! He thinks he’s got in front, just pokes it around the corner, gets a little bit of good fortune.

"What a strike it was from Alexander Isak and there is a little bit of good fortune as it falls into the path of [Jacob] Murphy. The Newcastle centre forward has got Gabriel and Saliba on toast – this is just him messing Saliba around. He can't handle him, not many can."

It's fair to say that Isak's impressive performances haven't gone under the radar and, with Mikel Arteta keen to strengthen his frontline, the Swede has been mooted as a potential target. However, he could soon be ruled out as an option if Arsenal don't act quickly.

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle want to reward the striker with a bumper new deal in the summer, which is currently set to expire in June 2028. The Magpies talisman has also recently teased that he might sign a contract extension in Tyneside.

Alan Shearer floated the idea of a new deal during an interview for the BBC, claiming 'big-name centre forwards sign long contracts'. The Newcastle legend was, of course, referencing Erling Haaland, who recently penned a nine-year deal at Manchester City.

"Yeah, we'll see – obviously, you never know," replied Isak, with a wry smile on his face. Speaking to Swedish publication Fotbal Skanalen in November, as quoted by 90min, Isak claimed he's not thought about his future.

He said: "Throughout my career, I have never talked about or really commented on the move rumours during the season. There have been many such years where it has been talked about. It doesn't affect me.

"I am commenting on my situation in Newcastle, and I have never had any problem there. I am fully focused on my task there and that we will have a fantastic season. There are still great opportunities for that.

"I have no thoughts about anything else," Isak added. "The only thing I can say is that a lot of information and rumours often come out. Much of what I read is not true. So that’s about all I can say about the whole thing."

The Telegraph have previously reported that Newcastle value Isak at 'more than £150m'. It remains to be seen whether or not Arsenal would be prepared to pay such an eye-watering fee.
