Newcastle United's Carabao Cup heroics at Arsenal on Wednesday night didn't come without a price, with several players feeling the affects of their efforts.

Magpies head coach Eddie Howe is expected to rest many of his key men for this Sunday's FA Cup third-round tie with League Two Bromley, but will not be taking the game too lightly. However, with two Premier League games next week, Howe will not take any risks on players carrying knocks.

Those include goal talisman Alexander Isak and Dutch defender Sven Botman, who were both left nursing injuries in midweek. Joe Willock was another to come off early, while Howe also has plenty of long-term injuries to consider. Here's the latest situation ahead of Sunday's Cup test.

Alexander Isak

Injury: Hamstring

The goalscoring sensation came off relatively early against Arsenal on Wendesday night after feeling his thigh. United will not want to lose their star man, so will give him plenty of time to recover - meaning it's unlikely he plays against Bromley if there is any niggle.

What Howe has said: Alex was just feeling his hamstring a little bit. We had a couple of other players struggling so we had to manage them."

Expected return: With a week's rest, he should return against Wolves next week (Jan 15).

Sven Botman

Injury: Groin

The Dutch defender put in two gut-busting displays at Spurs and Arsenal after nine months on the sidelines, but Howe revealed he has a slight groin issue after the rearguard action at the Emirates. It's not thought to be serious, but slight niggles are not uncommon after so long out, and United will want to be extra careful with Botman.

What Howe has said: “He was just feeling his groin. He felt that he was able to continue, and with him and the medical staff, we felt that he was able to go out for the second half."

Expected return: Botman is unlikely to be risked against Bromley on Sunday but could well return against Wolves. (Jan 15).

Joe Willock

Injury: Knock

After replacing the suspended Bruno Guimaraes against Arsenal, Willock came off early in the second half after picking up a knock. The midfielder is being assessed but it is not thought to be serious.

What Howe has said: "Joe took a nasty knock"

Expected return: Wolves (Jan 15).

Nick Pope

Injury: Knee

The United shot-stopper has missed the last few weeks after picking up a knee injury, but is closing in on a return. Martin Dubravka has performed well in his absence, but the Slovakian could be set to leave Newcastle this week, with Pope hoping to return for Wolves or Bournemouth.

What Howe has said: "Nick is starting goalkeeping work, so he's back on the grass. He's not yet fully training with the group."

Expected return: United had hoped he would be back mid-January, with Wolves, or possibly Bournemouth a target.

Callum Wilson

Injury: Hamstring

It's been another tough season for the United No 9, with plenty of hard work put in to return to match fitness, only for a hamstring injury to derail his comeback.

What Howe has said: "I really feel for Callum. We see the work, the dedication, the professionalism that he's shown, not just in the recovery from this injury, but throughout his career. To me he's an inspirational player and when you're in these moments, you have to understand how difficult this season has been for him."

Expected return: Mid-February

Emil Krath

Injury: Shoulder

Although not a first-team regular, United have missed their versatile Swedish defender and the back-up options he provides for Howe. He has been out since the end of October after dislocating his shoulder but could be back in a few weeks.

What Howe has said: "Emil is working well after undergoing surgery and is back on the grass and running."

Expected return: Early February

Jamaal Lascelles

Injury: ACL

Like Sven Botman before him, United have ensured Lascelles is not rushed back from knee surgery last spring. He had a similar recovery time to Botman, and could return to the squad next month

What Howe has said: "He is very focused. We always said he was a bit behind Sven (Botman)."

Expected return: February
