Alexander Isak has teased 'we'll see' after Alan Shearer floated the prospect of the Newcastle United star signing a new long-term contract.

Isak still has three-and-a-half years left to run on his current deal, but Newcastle intend to sit down with the Sweden star to discuss fresh terms. Understandably so.

Isak, after all, has scored 54 goals in just 92 games since completing his club-record move from Real Sociedad in 2022 and the striker has hit remarkable new heights in recent months. In fact, no one has been more lethal in front of goal in the Premier League since the start of December.

You can see why Shearer mentioned seeing other 'big-name centre forwards sign long contracts' during an interview with Isak for the BBC after Erling Haaland put pen to paper on a staggering nine-year deal at Manchester City. Isak's response? "Yeah, we'll see, " he smiled. "Obviously, you never know."

Isak has repeatedly spoken about how he feels at home at St James' Park, but Paul Merson questioned whether Newcastle could turn down £150m for the striker from Arsenal while fellow pundit Jay Bothroyd suggested the Gunners 'could get him' at the end of the season. Tim Sherwood has even bizarrely claimed that Isak 'might be rehearsing' in front of Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta. Not that Isak has taken much notice.

"This is something you get used to," Isak said after Shearer asked him if the constant speculation bothered him. "Sometimes you see things that make you laugh or things that are not right, but it's just a part of football. It shouldn't really bother you too much."
