Alexis Mac Allister explains major Liverpool advantage that Arne Slot can keep on using
Argentine midfielder Alexis Mac Allister believes the determination to ensure this season ends in silverware being lifted by Liverpool is behind the recent uplift in impact from players coming off the bench.
Darwin Nunez grabbed a brace at Brentford to earn his team the points and move six clear the Premier League's summit before Harvey Elliott notched the winner midweek at home to Lille in the Champions League, with Arne Slot using his substitutes to good effect on both occasions. Elliott changed the game at the Gtech Community Stadium as well, while Federico Chiesa impressed in cameos in both fixtures.
"I think it’s the desire and the fire to fight for trophies this year," Mac Allister explained to Liverpool's official website. "Of course it’s never easy to be on the bench, but the coach tries to make clear that everyone is really important for the team and everyone has to contribute.

"I really like this because, as a team, if you want to compete for trophies, you need players who come off the bench and do the things we are doing. So, really happy for that and everyone can see that we have a really good team."
With the likes of Elliott and Chiesa now looking sharp and like genuine options for Liverpool in the second half of the season, something that was already a major strength for Slot has been further supplemented. And with a stronger roster than anyone else in the Premier League, the Liverpool boss is able to keep his players fresher and off the treatment table.
With Liverpool potentially fighting on four fronts again this year, the whole squad will be required at points, with those who haven't got many minutes still content to play a sporadic part. Wataru Endo, for instance, has insisted that he isn't frustrated by his lack of action, and there is depth in almost every area of the team.
"I don't get frustrated about [not playing]," he told reporters including from Liverpool.com earlier this month. "I always just try to be ready for the team, to help. Of course I want to play every game but we need everyone. The thing I can do is prepare for every game [in case] I have minutes."
Liverpool.com says: No other side has the level of quality Liverpool does. Arsenal does in defensive areas but the Reds have a major edge in attack, which is usually where you need it most to win games in the second half. If Slot can bring on Elliott and Chiesa — plus the likes of Nunez and Diogo Jota — that is a completely different skillset from the main starters who can make a difference.
