Liverpool's Alexis Mac Allister has shared a heartfelt message for his Manchester United counterpart and Argentina compatriot Lisandro Martinez, who suffered an injury during Sunday's match. The defender was taken off the pitch on a stretcher in tears in United's 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace after he clutched his knee in visible distress.

The gloomy prognosis from Argentina indicates that Martinez's injury is just as serious as feared. He will miss the remainder of the season, with a cruciate injury typically demanding up to nine months for recovery. This represents the second occasion Martinez has encountered knee woes at Manchester United, having previously been sidelined last season with a medial collateral ligament issue.

In response, the Reds' midfielder Mac Allister expressed a touch of class via social media. "Stay strong my friend! To come back stronger than ever," he wrote on Instagram stories, accompanied by a snapshot with Martinez.

The duo were both part of the Argentinian squad that clinched the World Cup in 2022 held in Qatar, as well as tasting success in the previous summer's Copa America held in the United States.

Mac Allister has proven to be a pivotal figure for Liverpool under Arne Slot this term. The 26-year-old has racked up 32 appearances, contributing three goals and creating three assists in the process. Deployed further up the pitch compared to his position under Slot's predecessor, Jurgen Klopp, Mac Allister has been instrumental in propelling the Reds through an impressive season to date with their new Dutch manager at the helm.

Liverpool currently sits comfortably at the top of the Premier League, six points ahead of second-placed Arsenal, with a game still to play. Slot's squad has also secured their place in the last 16 of the Champions League and are set to face Tottenham in the Carabao Cup semi-finals before squaring off against Plymouth in the FA Cup fourth round this weekend.
