Who is Alfie Dorrington? The Tottenham academy ace Ange Postecoglou could start vs Wolves
Plenty of Tottenham fans have made their feelings clear that they want to see Alfie Dorrington feature in Sunday's game against Wolves. Tottenham are in the midst of an injury crisis right now and Radu Dragusin could be the latest star to join the long list of players in the treatment room.
The Romanian international sustained an ankle injury in the closing minutes of the Boxing Day defeat at Nottingham Forest and Spurs are now sweating over his fitness going into their latest match. Already without Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Ben Davies through injury, Postecoglou and his coaching team are going to have to come up with a plan if Dragusin faces time on the sidelines.
Yves Bissouma could well drop into defence after playing there in the closing stages of the Nottingham Forest match, with Rodrigo Bentancur possibly another option. However, some Spurs supporters believe that Dorrington should be handed his senior debut for the club as that is his position after all.

Here's all you need to know about the 19-year-old ahead of Sunday's game against Wolves:
Born locally in Enfield and from a family of Tottenham fans, Dorrington has earned rave reviews while advancing through the club's academy due to his defensive qualities, ability on the ball, range of passing and his commanding displays at the back. Joining Tottenham at Under-13s level after making his name in local junior football, the highly-rated centre-back made three appearances for the club's Under-18s during the 2020/21 season while still a schoolboy.
A regular for the Under-18s the following season as he made 26 appearances across all competitions, Dorrington got his first taste of Premier League 2 football in September 2022 after playing 71 minutes of the 3-0 defeat away at Crystal Palace. It proved to be a memorable campaign for the player as he played his part in both the Under-17s and Under-18s triumphing in the Premier League Cup.
In the Under-18s' victory at Aston Villa, Dorrington came to the attention of many as he displayed his defensive attributes and his ability to drive out of defence with the ball. He was influential in Jamie Donley's goal at Villa Park after intercepting the ball in his own box, playing a one-two with Mikey Moore and running practically the length of the field to tee up Donley to find the bottom corner.
Since then, Dorrington has been on the cusp of the first team, with the player getting the call-up to the matchday squad for the first time in November 2023 for the defeat at Wolves. The youngster was on the bench for 11 consecutive games but unfortunately match action didn't come his way.
Continuing to feature regularly for the Under-21s in Premier League 2, Dorrington unfortunately played no part in the team's Premier League 2 play-off final win over Sunderland in May after having to undergo hamstring surgery that month. Cruel for the player to miss out on their final success, his form over the course of the campaign was highlighted after making the shortlist for the Premier League 2 Player of the Year award.
Not returning to action until late September and unfortunately missing out in pre-season at a time when Postecoglou's team had a real lack of centre-backs, Dorrington made his senior debut in the recent 5-0 win over Southampton after replacing Djed Spence for the final 13 minutes of the contest. It proved to be a momentous day for the player as he made his bow for the club he supports.
"It's an honour, a true honour," he told the club's official website. "I've watched so many of those players, now I'm part of it. It's funny, when I was a young boy, I didn't even think of being here on a day like this. I just enjoyed playing football. Now, I've come on and made my Premier League debut for the team I grew up watching. It's unbelievable, really.
"My whole family are Spurs. My brother's mates were here. They live in Dubai, they are close family friends and they're over for Christmas. That worked out perfectly! A few friends were here as well. For them to be here when I made my debut, that was special.
"It's amazing to think I started in the Academy with the Under-13s, straight from Sunday league, five years ago now. I've been around the squad, been on the bench a few times, but never actually came on. It's about being patient. It's about being patient, but this shows you can do it.
"Then the moment comes... it felt like I was on the touchline for ages, excited, just waiting to get on. I was thinking, 'this is what I've worked for my whole life'. I just want to thank all the coaches who have been involved in my journey here and elsewhere and my parents for believing in me, taking me to all those games when I was younger."
Dorrington's next taste of senior football could potentially come on Sunday afternoon against Wolves amid doubts over Dragusin's fitness going into the game. Wowing for the club's academy in recent seasons, he will be looking to do likewise when his next opportunity in the first team comes his way.
