Santos are on the verge of securing a loan to bring Neymar to the club - and boss Pedro Caixinha has made his pitch to the superstar with a deal inching closer.

Brazilian outlet Diario do Peixe reported on Sunday that an agreement between the player and his boyhood club was already in place with an initial loan the most likely outcome - with Al-Hilal paying a portion of his wages to hand him a Saudi Pro League exit. And former Rangers boss Caixinha - who took over the Brazilian giants last month - was put on the spot about the arrival of the superstar following the Campeonato Paulista draw with Ponte Preta.

Caixinha said: "I’m not going to talk about speculation, because that’s what it’s all about at the moment. I don’t know the player, I don’t know the person, we don’t know the state he’s in, but he’s a world-class player with fantastic, undeniable quality.

"Any team needs him, but we have a lot more to worry about and fix here, to consolidate. I always see the organisation of teams from the back to the front so that the creative players have more freedom, so we need to create that balance first, then if he comes, I can tell you what coach in the world wouldn’t like to have Neymar, but I can’t say anything else about that, because there’s absolutely nothing else."

It could see a dream realised for former Ibrox man Alfredo Morelos. The Colombian is set to return to Santos this month after the end of the campaign with loan club Atlético Nacional.

Neymar previously paid a visit his former club - where he broke Pele's goalscoring record - and was snapped with Morelos. At the time the Colombian posted pictures and video footage of their encounter on his Instagram account and described the Brazil international as an "idol".

Should he be given another chance at Santos by Caixinha he could line up against his hero. Morelos helped Atlético claim their 18th Colombian title last term.
