Alisson Becker has already won the Premier League and the Champions League with Liverpool. Now, under a different head coach in Arne Slot, he wants to do the same again.

The Brazilian has played four times since returning from his hamstring injury, helping Liverpool move six points clear at the summit of the domestic league table and remain the only side with a 100 per cent record in the European one. "It is too soon to talk about the title, of course, but it's our goal, it's our target," Alisson told reporters at Anfield.

"At this point, we cannot just start to look to the points and see how it goes. We have to really focus on the next opponent that we have in front of us. That's the mentality that we need and that is the mentality that we are having at the moment.

"We know how the Premier League can change so quickly in two games. Two games ago, maybe everybody was saying, looking to us at the table, Chelsea coming closer, all the teams coming closer, and now two games after we are in a better position.

"Everything changes so quickly here because of the quality of all the teams so we have to be really focused on ourselves. We have so many things to improve. During the season, you have to become a champion not only in one game or only for what we did at this halfway point."

Slot has sought to play down the expectation that is building around his team but even the Dutchman has used the 19-game mark as one that will need to be reached before predictions can be made. That is now only two fixtures away — West Ham and Manchester United.

Of course, Liverpool was in a promising position last year too, but fell short in Jurgen Klopp's final campaign at the helm. On New Year's Day in 2024, the Reds beat Newcastle United 4-2 to move three points ahead of Manchester City, though Pep Guardiola's men had a game in hand.

"All the experience that we have, it's good to think about that," Alisson said. "The good things and the bad things, the good moments and the bad moments, they will teach you. The bad moments I think they will teach a lot. So, yes, we can take a lot of lessons from last season.

"But we are in a different moment now as well. You can see that all players are fully committed, everybody's fit, we have a few players injured, but everybody who is able to play, who is not injured, is really fit, is really well, is really in a good shape. I can tell you that the commitment of the players to be in a good shape as well, to prepare themselves for the games, is a really big commitment.

"So that's something that we learned from the past as well: that you don't only win games at the matchday; you win games before, by preparing yourself and making yourself in the best shape possible."

"We have a few players that are playing here long enough, that experienced the highest peak of maybe the Jurgen Klopp era, if we can say that, and the lowest as well.

"So all these kind of things you can use as a boost of energy, and we know the quality that we have so that's something that brings you energy and makes you put a lot of effort in to achieve good things, those players that they deserve.

"They work hard, they have quality, and we know that in the future we're going to remember more about the good moments now that you had together in football. Winning is not everything, of course, but it's a big part of football so I want to remember this team as a winning team."

Generally, Slot has been able to manage injuries well this season, which has gone a long way to contributing to that success. Alisson missed 11 matches with a hamstring injury, though, and says he was desperate to return.

"It's not easy when you stay for a long time away," Alisson said. "It was not easy for me, but I worked really hard. I was looking forward to coming back because when you are injured, these days you just don't go there, put some ice on your legs and just wait until you're fully recovered. You work so hard in the gym every day, sometimes double sessions, pretty much every day double sessions, doing treatment at home, having treatment at the club.

"So I spent a lot of time working without doing the best side of football, that is playing. So I was looking forward to coming back, even because the team was doing so well, so you get even more excited to be part of it."

When Liverpool last won the Premier League, it had a big advantage heading into the New Year. While the gap is nothing like the 13 points that it was then, the Reds do have a lead — but Alisson is keen not to read too much into it.

"I don't think it's too similar," he said. "[It's] two different teams. A few players still play in the team but we have a little bit different style now, more ball possession, before it was really straightforward: a lot of transition, a lot of intensity.

"That team was really special, we achieved great things, it was the first Premier League title for this club in a long time. We achieved the Champions League together as well, the season before. I think there's no comparison with both situations.

"Just what makes me happy is to see that this group of players, we have the quality to do something special and the most important thing is the commitment that is needed to win something is there, and the passion, the desire. We are hungry and we want to win every game in front of us and that we have in front of us and that's all we are focused on at the moment.

"I think it's different players, different managers, a lot of more different things than similarities. Of course you're going to find a lot of things. I think you from the press, you know more about these kind of things and you look more for these kind of things. I believe we don't have to compare ourselves with the teams in the past, we have to create our own history.

"This season, this group has to create its own history. With the players who came in, they brought a lot of quality, and what we are doing, what we can do, we're not going to erase the things we did in the past that were really special and be always in the history of this club."
