Ally McCoist and Dean Ashton have written off Leeds United's chances of making a big impact in the Premier League if they win promotion this season.

The Championship leaders were held to a goalless draw at Burnley last night. It was a cagey contest played in driving Lancashire rain. It took until the 89th minute for either goalkeeper to be forced into a save.

The draw kept the Clarets within touching distance of the Whites. Scott Parker's men boast the best defensive record in the division, having racked up a remarkable 20 clean sheets from 29 league matches this term.

Former Rangers and Scotland striker McCoist told talkSPORT: “On the evidence of what I saw last night, you’d say both teams would struggle in the top flight.”

United sit top of the pile on 60 points, two clear of second-placed Sheffield United, with Burnley a further point behind. Fourth-placed Sunderland remain five points off the summit.

“They’re the top scorers in the Championship, but [Daniel Farke] will be so pleased with the defensive side and how little they seemed to give the opposition," Ashton told talkSPORT.

“The big thing is, are either of these two teams expected and hoping to do anything in the Premier League with performances like we saw tonight? That’s the thing. They’ve got no chance on this showing.”

Next up for the Whites is a home meeting with relegation-threatened Cardiff City on Saturday. The Bluebirds are currently in 18th position, four points above the drop zone.
