Ally McCoist hears grim Rangers reality from his boys as Alan Brazil laughs in face of Ibrox 'suffering'
Hurting Ally McCoist relived Rangers' 'howling' defeat to Queen's Park - before he revealed his sons hammered home the grim reality of being a modern day Ibrox diehard.
But his radio pal Alan Brazil had no mercy for any of the McCoist clan as his Celtic daft co-host couldn't stifle a laugh at their pain. McCoist was on talkSPORT duties for the first time since his beloved Gers crashed out of the Scottish Cup in humiliating fashion, the Philippe Clement era hitting its lowest ebb yet with the unfancied Championship outfit rocking up to Ibrox and winning 1-0.
It came on a weekend with no shortage of cup upsets, with Premier League leaders Liverpool exiting the FA Cup to Championship outfit Plymouth. So with cup shocks on the radio agenda on Wednesday morning, it wasn't long before McCoist was put under the cosh by his pal and broadcast sparring partner Brazil.
The Ibrox hero said his Ibrox-daft sons were gutted at the result, but didn't feel it was that much of a shock – something that framed for him the grim reality of being a Rangers fan while things are this bad. But in a hilarious exchange with Brazil, who played a laugh track to get a rise out of his co-host, he struggled to get the serious point across. Here's how the back-and-forth played out.
McCoist: "The first thing you've got to say is that was an absolute howler. Stop laughing!"
Brazil (laughing): "It's only because Queen's Park were the first team I ever watched as a kid!"
McCoist: "Let me tell you, my boys, as gutted as they were..."
Brazil: "Tell me they were there..."
McCoist: "No..."
Brazil: "That's a shame."
McCoist: "That's poor from you! You wanted them to suffer! But no, as gutted as they were, there was a resignation there that it wasn't that big a shock. It's terrible (the situation Rangers are in).
"That's got to be one of the worst cup shocks. Celtic getting beat by Inverness was up there as well. There's been a couple of belters. Did Brora Rangers not beat Hearts? And arguably the biggest one of the lot was Darvel beating Aberdeen."
