Former Rangers and Scotland legend Ally McCoist praised Hull City for their incredible 3-0 win at Sheffield United on Friday evening, a result that raised plenty of eyes around the Championship.

City's deserved victory at Bramall Lane against a side who had lost just once in front of their own supporters and conceded just five goals in their previous 13 league games this term moved the Tigers back out of the relegation zone.

Owing to their heaviest defeat of the season, the Blades missed the chance to go top of the Championship and could drop to third on Monday night, if Burnley win at current leaders Leeds United.

'Incredible," McCoist said on talkSPORT. "It was a remarkable result, I've got to say. I know there's been changes (new arrivals), but I still thought it was a remarkable result.

"What a game we've got tonight; I think I'm right in saying that if they (Burnley) win comfortably tonight, and it's a big ask (it would need an 8-0 win), they can go to the top of the league. What a game to really look forward to."

That thumping result for City moved them out of the drop zone and plunged Derby County into it, and they suffered a sixth straight league defeat at Cardiff City on Saturday while Luton Town's worries continued with another home defeat, this time to Millwall.

McCoist and presenter Jeff Stelling then discussed the battle at the bottom of the Championship, which sees Plymouth Argyle, Luton Town, and Derby County occupy the bottom three with 17 games left and City two points above.

"Oh no, there's a long, long way to go," added Jeff Stelling when asked about whether there would be changes in the bottom three. "The bottom three is absolutely wide open in that division. It's the classic anybody can beat anybody else. I can see Derby turning things around; Portsmouth's home form is strong, so I think there are lots of twists and turns."

"The league is summed up by Plymouth who got an absolute battering at home, five nothing down at half-time against Burnley. Who would have given them hope at the Stadium of Light against Sunderland? They got two all, so fair play," added McCoist.
