Alphonso Davies blow actually provides Liverpool with Trent Alexander-Arnold silver lining
Liverpool may lose out on the opportunity to sign Alphonso Davies for free this summer, according to the latest reports. Yet it is a so-called blow with a key silver lining as Trent Alexander-Arnold faces the same situation as the Canadian.
With the conversation picking up around the Reds' need to create an Andy Robertson succession plan, Davies has been one of the talented names in the rumour mill. A serial Bundesliga and Champions League winner at 24, at present he stands on course to leave Bavaria for free at the end of the campaign.
However, a twist announced by David Ornstein tells of an agreement to stay with Munich for another four years being 'close'.

Unnamed Premier League clubs and most importantly to this tale, Real Madrid, are said to be 'waiting in the wings' on the off chance that negotiations spectacularly collapse from this point on.
As they have done throughout Alexander-Arnold's ongoing contract renewal talks with Liverpool, Spanish media have extensively reported Madrid's ambition to pluck Davies from his current settings with no fee involved.
It was little over 24 hours before Friday's bombshell that Marca had said both players were taking 'giant steps' towards the Spanish capital. Diario AS were reporting at the same time that a collapse of a renewal at Bayern 'seems a fact'.
These are only two examples in an extensive line of reports on Davies - all which could be proven untrue if the latest development instead comes to fruition.
So even if Liverpool themselves would also be denied signing the Canadian Men's National Team captain this summer, they can hope the same can be said of Spanish word about their own full-back with an uncertain future.
Of course both players are different people with different factors at play in their respective situations, but Alexander-Arnold took a vow of silence on all contract matters back in September and that is how it has remained since - in both Liverpool and Madrid.
Late speculation over there suggests that he has a pre-agreement in place to arrive in July, yet the fact of the matter remains the only concrete update, as reported by the ECHO on New Years' Eve, was the approach rejected by Liverpool to conduct business this January.
Both the Reds and Trent Alexander-Arnold are committed to one another for the entirety of the 2024/25 campaign at least.
