Alun Wyn Jones got choked up while telling a heartwarming story about his late father Tim.

The legendary Welsh lock recently appeared as a guest on an episode of BBC's Scrum V Top Five with comedian Mike Bubbins.

The pair were speaking about Scott Gibbs ' famous try against England at Wembley at 1999, and watching the game with his father, one of the moments that sparked his love for the sport.

From watching the egg-shaped game together in the stands, Jones would make his debut for Wales seven years later, with dad watching his son from the stands.

"He used to wear a Viking helmet with horns on the side of the pitch," began Jones. "The funny thing was, he was recognisable for a lot of people for that.

"I always thought he was the embarrassing dad, but it wasn't until later when my mum said: 'It was actually so you could see him from the pitch'."

"Oh my god, that's lovely!" exclaimed Bubbins.

"Well, I didn't realise," continued Jones. "Now that I'm a father, I 100% understand that I would probably just want to know that he was there... but yeah, he was there for most of it (career)."

"What a lovely memory, mate," said Bubbins. "Have you got a Viking helmet?"

"It's still there somewhere," explained Jones. "I'll try and dig it out, and make my kids feel the same."

Tim Jones sadly passed away in 2016 due to a long illness. He played for Swansea Athletic from 1969 and turned out for the senior side in the 1973-1974 season, and went on to spent 40 years in the legal profession.
