American billionaire 'to make another move to buy Premier League club Chelsea'

An American billionaire is considering making another move to buy Chelsea,, according to The Telegraph.

Todd Boehly, a part-owner of MLB’s LA Dodgers, saw an initial move for the west London club rebuffed as owner Roman Abramovich refused to consider selling.

The Russian reportedly values Chelsea at an astonishing £3billion, according to experts, following recent investment in Manchester City which saw their value reach £3.74bn.

He has turned down four bids for the club inside 18 months after his visa expired, leaving him unable to work in the United Kingdom.

That also caused the club to halt construction on their proposed £1bn stadium, with a looming March 2020 deadline before planning permission for the ground will expire.

Boehly, who is the chairman, CEO and controlling member of Eldridge Industries, has no set timeframe for a second bid and as such could bide his time.

The American, who tried to purchase Tottenham in 2014, earlier made his interest in buying a Premier League club clear and Chelsea are said to be his number one target.

“Football’s the biggest sport in the world, the passion the fans have for the sport and the teams is unparalleled,” Boehly told Bloomburg. “So what you are trying to build with these teams, you are really trying to a) win and b) be part of the community.

“The opportunity we had with the Dodgers was really about part-ownership with Los Angeles, how are we going to win, how are we going to drive championships and how are we going to build passion. If you look at what the Premier League offers, it’s all of those things.”
