Amorim rant will give Rangers whiplash against Man United as Hagi urged to get out of Ibrox – Hotline
It's a huge week in Europe for Scotland's top two as Celtic and Rangers bid to reach the knockout stages in their respective competitions.
Brendan Rodgers and his troops can all but stamp their ticket to the next round with a victory over league phase basement boys Young Boys under the lights at Parkhead while it is a huge Battle of Britain clash at Old Trafford as out of sorts Manchester United welcome Philippe Clement and Co - with the EPL giants currently in crisis mode. Ruben Amorim publicly blasted his side and questioned whether they are the worst United side in the history of the club in the wake of their defeat to Brighton - but that has also put one punter on red alert over a response. Robert Pender emailed: "The manager's comment about the team is a wake up call to his players. Rangers could get the whip lash from this, so beware Rangers."
The Hotline turned into a back and forth over comments made by one caller as chat over the 'worst team' in history of the competition came back to the fore. Derek Cormack emailed: "George Wilson reckons Celtic have embarrassed themselves for 25 years in Europe. May I remind him the team he now supports have the accolade of being the poorest performing team in the history of the Champions League, and he has the brass neck to talk about the champions"
Dougie James, Glasgow: "Just to inform Glen Mitchell of the actual facts rather than his wishful thinking. Rangers currently hold the record as the worst performing team in the Champions League, in a single season. Celtic are the worst performing team in the history of the Champions League. I know which record I'd rather my team had."
Alan Flett, emailed: "Celtic have had it easy in the Champions League this season. When you consider both the format and the poor level of opponents they've faced, it's almost impossible not to qualify for the play offs. As for freak results, the biggest one in living memory occurred at Parkhead in November 2012.
Jamie Thompson, Yoker: "Had to laugh when deluded Celtic supporters slag Rangers playing diddy clubs. Lets see what they do tonight against bottom of the Champions League Young Boys. When Rangers beat Celtic 3-0, Celtic were bunch of diddys."
A hot topic for discussion this season has been Ianis Hagi. From being out in the cold with the B team to taking a wage cut and coming to an agreement with the Ibrox board in order to get back in the first team picture, The Romanian has emerged as a key player for Clement and Rangers but again his name is in the headlines. This time it is due to the fact the club will not be taking up an option in his contract at the current terms - although they want to get around the table and discuss lower figures as they seek to keep him long-term.
Robert Livingstone, Palm Beach: "Clement and the board shunned Ianis Hagi and treated him badly, now they need him, but want to cut his wages money he's rightly entitled to, they're paying James Tavernier 40k a week, Connor Goldson had the same deal, for all he's been put through Hagi comes across as a thoroughly decent person, none of these others do, in a mess of their own creation"
