In the shock event of Manchester United talent Kobbie Mainoo leaving the club this year, United will have to delve into the transfer market to find a suitable replacement to fill his position.

Ruben Amorim will not want to lose the highly-rated midfielder with him playing a key role in his breakthrough season last campaign, including scoring winning goals away at Wolves as well as his calm taken FA Cup winning goal against Manchester City at Wembley.

However, Manchester Evening News reported earlier this week that Mainoo is unhappy with the initial terms United have offered for a new contract, sparking sudden uncertainty over his future.

Soif the 19-year-old was to leave Old Trafford, here are four options that United could look at to replace him in the potential event of his departure.

Morten Hjulmand

The Danish international played a key part in Ruben Amorim’s title winning campaign at Sporting last season with his ability to play line-breaking passes from midfield as well as popping up with the odd goal to help out his side.

Hjulmand scored a screamer in Amorim’s last game in charge of Sporting away at Braga in November and is contracted to the club until 2028.

While being slightly more defensive minded in his role than Mainoo, Hjulmand would settle in nicely at United under his former coach and his potential arrival would add another leader to the dressing room as he is the current Sporting captain.

Sverre Nyman

The 18-year-old Norwegian prodigy has been linked to a move to Old Trafford in recent months after impressing against the club for Rosenborg in the first of United’s pre-season friendlies in July.

Nyman racked up an impressive 15 goal involvements in Norway’s top division last season and is tipped to have a price tag of just over £10million with his contract at Rosenborg expiring next year.

United may face stiff competition for his signature however, with Arsenal reported being interested in the Norwegian.

Tijani Reijnders

Dutch international Reijnders has cemented his place as one of AC Milan’s most important assets this season, being involved in eight goals in their Serie A campaign so far.

The 26-year-old midfielder could link up with his Netherlands team mates Matthijs De Ligt and Joshua Zirkzee at Old Trafford and would be a fine addition to Ruben Amorim’s squad having shown some of his best qualities this campaign.

However, it may take bids of more than £50million to secure the services of the Milan star with his contract running until 2028.

Carlos Baleba

Baleba has proven himself to be another piece of very good business from Brighton after signing from Lille in 2023 with his physical presence and technical ability shining in the Premier League this season.

The Cameroon international has filled the gap left by Moises Caicedo well in the Brighton midfield with his performances proving his £23million arrival to be another bargain buy from the Seagulls.

Brighton would likely demand a hefty fee from any Premier League rival who wish to sign their new midfield star, however if he was to link up with Ruben Amorim he would surely be a perfect addition to the United engine room.
