Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola was fuming on the touchline for much of Liverpool's 2-0 win over his side in the Premier League. But he was ultimately magnanimous in defeat, admitting that the Reds always have a chance of punishing teams with their quality.

Mohamed Salah scored a goal in each half from the penalty spot in the first and then with an excellent curled effort with around a quarter of an hour left on the clock — and while Bournemouth showed plenty of intensity and desire, it was unable to find a way past Alisson Becker. League leader Liverpool eventually had too much firepower.

"Disappointed when you lose a game," Iraola told Sky Sports. "Small things that didn't go for us. We have given ourselves a chance, but it hasn't been enough.

"Key moments, you can score and make the difference. But we have not scored and at the end, against teams like Liverpool, you need to punish them whenever you have the chance.

"The way the players performed, everyone can see it has been a high-level game. We have a week to prepare for the game against Everton in the FA Cup. Everton have been doing well so it's a difficult draw for us."

Liverpool won 3-0 vs Bournemouth in the reverse fixture but Arne Slot was convinced after that game that the Cherries would go on to have a good season. "Exactly the game we expected," he told Sky Sports at the final whistle today. "They’re so intense and they keep running every second.

"I said before the game when we were 3-0 up at Anfield at half-time they kept on running. We had to play on top of our abilities and we needed a bit of luck to win this game.

"They were constantly trying to do things. I didn't think we controlled the game. It is a good team and a good manager. I am very happy that we could keep a clean sheet and score two goals."

Liverpool.com says: Iraola is a top manager in the making but sometimes you just don't have the players to be able to compete at the level required. If his side had Salah on the right wing, things could have been different. While he was fuming with the referee for most of the game, he seemed to have calmed down a lot by the time he was speaking here.
