Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has suffered a decrease in his transfer valuation as the shot-stopper comes under fire for another high-profile error.

The Cameroon international made his third mistake leading to a goal of the season when he looked to smother a cross, however the ball squirmed free and Georginio Rutter was on hand to wrap up the points for Brighton & Hove Albion.

Onana's failings have come during a difficult start to life at Old Trafford for new head coach Ruben Amorim. The Manchester Evening News reported at the beginning of the month that the Portuguese tactician is looking to recruit a new goalkeeper to compete with the former Ajax and Inter Milan shotstopper.

The 28-year-old made a positive start to the campaign but his form has dipped considerably since, coinciding with a torrid run of form under the former Sporting CP boss. The MEN also reported at the beginning of the January window that Onana, alongside United teammates Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund are no longer considered 'untouchable' ahead of Amorim's rebuild at Old Trafford.

According to Transfermarkt, Onana's pricetag has dipped from €40million (£33m), when he signed, to €35million (£29m) in the most recent figures released. Onana's deputy Altay Bayindir was the hero against

Arsenal in the FA Cup third round after denying Martin Odegaard from the penalty spot in normal time before guessing the right way to thwart Kai Havertz. However, the Turkey goalkeeper was criticised for making two costly errors during United's Carabao Cup tie with Tottenham Hotspur, as they were knocked out by Ange Postecoglou's side.

Amorim refused to call out Onana for his mistake against Brighton - but the error does mean the United boss faces a decision over who he should start in his side's next game against Rangers in the Europa League on Thursday.

"In ten games in Premier League, we won two," he said. "I know that. Imagine what this is for a fan of Manchester United. Imagine what this is for me. We are getting a new coach who is losing more than the last coach. I have full knowledge of that.

"I am not going to change, no matter what. I know we can succeed but we need to survive this moment. I am not naive. We need to survive now.

"We are the worst team maybe in the history of Manchester United. I know you want headlines but I am saying that because we have to acknowledge that and to change that. Here you go: your headlines."
