Ange handed Rangers olive branch as Tottenham bluntness laid bare by one thing in Liverpool drubbing
Ange Postecoglou found an unlikely alley after he was mocked by sack chants during his injury-hit Tottenham side's Anfield mauling.
But many Spurs fans are hesitant to defend the former Celtic boss just yet. The Australian gaffer had a magical time north of the border clinching five trophies in his two seasons in Glasgow before making the move to London and the Premier League. After a trophyless first season Ange has made clear that he always wins silverware in his second season.
But his Spurs side were completely overwhelmed by Arne Slot's men in their League Cup semi-final who went for the throat from the start. The Reds ran out 4-1 winners on aggregate thanks to strikes from Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai and Virgil van Dijk. Such was the Premier League leader's dominance, Spurs failed to register a single shot on target throughout the 90 minutes. It is a far cry from the attacking football Postecoglou is famed for.

There was insult to injury from a group of Liverpool fans who showered him with 'sacked in the morning' chants in the 84th minute as many Spurs fans took to social media to vent their frustration. One said: "Ange Postecoglou even makes goalkeepers worse. Sack this football moron now."
Another added: "The senior players let us down. Ange changed it up early in the second half. No leadership. The young lands like Gray, Bergvall, Tel, and Spence just left to try their best. Today is the first time I've ever thought that perhaps Postecoglou isn't the right fit."
In a bizarre twist, Ange and his Tottenham team were defended by Rangers legend Ally McCoist who was on commentary duties for ITV. He said: "If you are looking at it and you assessment of the whole game - they haven't laid a glove on Liverpool.
"I think the main reason for it actually is that Liverpool have been so good. But Spurs fans are entitled to ask one or two questions. I honestly believe that Liverpool have just been too good. They could have made one or two changes - of course they could have. Would it have made a lot of difference? I am not so sure. Sometimes you have just got to hold your hands up."
Liverpool face Newcastle at the Wembley showpiece on March 16.
