Ange Postecoglou admits Tottenham may not make any more new signings during January transfer window
Ange Postecoglou has acknowledged that Tottenham may not add to their stretched squad before the end of the month, despite the club's worsening injury crisis.
Postecoglou has repeatedly requested "help" for his depleted squad in the form of new signings this month, with the head coach set to be without no fewer than 10 players through injury for Thursday's Europa League tie against Hoffenheim, while four others are ineligible.
Spurs have added Min-hyeok Yang, 19, and goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky to Postecoglou's roster this winter but the Australian wants a new forward and a defender who are capable of hitting the ground running.
But asked if there was a chance that no new players would arrive in the next 11 days, Postecoglou said: "Yeah, potentially. The club is working hard to try to get some help for the players, but as far as I know, there’s nothing imminent. But things happen quickly in the last week of the window, so still hopeful."
Spurs slumped to 15th in the Premier League table after Sunday's 3-2 defeat to Everton left them with just one league win in 10 matches.
Postecoglou's side would, though, strengthen their chances of qualifying automatically for the Europa League play-off with a win over Hoffenheim, while they are still in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.
Postecoglou dismissed the suggestion that his players were prioritising the cup competitions and says his depleted squad is giving all they can.
"Nah mate, the players are giving everything every game," he said. "This has been a good solid two months of us relying on a small group of players.
"We’re in every competition which is a great thing but it adds a toll. We’ve been playing two games a week for this whole period.
"That’s why we’re picking up some injuries now. The players are giving everything every game. They're trying their utmost in every fixture we have. We’re still in three cup competitions so there’s a fantastic opportunity there for us in the next couple of months."
