Destiny Udogie suffered another hamstring injury, adding to Tottenham's problems as Ange Postecoglou appear to hit out at the lack of numbers in his squad. The head coach had to watch on as his side failed to win for a third Premier League match in a row.

A late goal from Jorgen Strand-Larsen for Wolves piled yet more pressure on Postecoglou as Spurs were condemned to finishing 2024 in the bottom half of the Premier League table following a 2-2 at home. Wolves will end it just about the relegation zone after a strong start to life as boss for Vitor Pereira.

Udogie's injury summed up what has been a torrid period for Tottenham, though. He lasted less than five minutes of the second half before picking up a knock which will now leave Postecoglou without yet more of his backline. Already stretched to the point of playing nominal midfielder Archie Gray at centre-back, Udogie started his second game in a row after returning to the side earlier this month.

The 21-year-old missed the final two months of last season and was dealt a worry at the start of December after going off injured against Southampton. Postecoglou was happy to name him on the bench for the 6-3 defeat to Liverpool, choosing Djed Spence to operate at left-back instead.

Udogie played most of the Boxing Day loss to Nottingham Forest before having to depart early at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday. Asked about the player, Postecoglou offered what is a worrying update.

"Yeah, I think it was a hamstring," he said. The under fire coach then added: "Again, like I said, we've been relying on a core group of players because we just haven't had the ability to rotate so at some point it was going to catch up with us. Unfortunately, it caught up with Destiny."

Spurs are currently without first-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario as well as main centre-back pairing Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven all through injury. A young bench was named for the draw to Wolves with Alfie Dorrington, Will Lankshear, Lucas Bergvall, and Callum Latif Olusesi all selected.

Postecoglou now faces the challenge of getting his side to respond to yet another setback as they prepare to welcome Newcastle on December 4. The near full week off will be a chance for Udogie to start his recovery but also poses as a major threat in the middle of a run of one league win in seven and just two in the last nine beyond that.
