Ange Postecoglou said that Rodrigo Bentancur's first-half head injury was a "worrying" moment during the first half of Liverpool's loss to Tottenham in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg.

Bentancur prompted concern among both sets of players as he hit the floor when trying to get his head on a corner taken by Pedro Porro and failed to get back up.

Porro quickly recognzed the graveness of the situation, signaling the urgent need for medics to tend to Bentancur, and the Uruguayan was treated for close to 10 minutes before being taken off on a stretcher while wearing an oxygen mask.

Doctors were still treating Bentancur in the Tottenham dressing room when the half-time whistle went around 50 minutes after the original incident occurred, and Spurs issued a statement at half-time confirming the player was conscious and was being taken to hospital for further treatment.

Postecoglou was asked about Bentancur in the first question of his post-match interview with Sky Sports. "I don't have all the information," the Australian said. "My understanding is he is conscious and he was conscious when he got to the dressing room. We took him to hospital to get him checked over. It was worrying and always a concern but from what I know hopefully he will be OK."

In a separate answer on Bentancur's injury given during a post-match press conference, Postecoglou said: "I don't want to speculate. It was some sort of head injury. It was bad enough for his teammates to worry about him."

Postecoglou referenced the loss of Bentancur as he praised his team for bouncing back and recording a narrow victory, which was achieved with two teenagers in the starting line-up in Archie Gray and match-winner Lucas Bergvall.

"We are having to deal with adversity all the time," Postecoglou said. "We started really well and then lost a key player. This lot are nothing if not resilient and they keep going and they did today.

"It is incredible when you think we had a couple of 18-year-olds out there. I have just seen so much growth. I have no doubt we will get through this period and get players back, what I've found in the meantime is we have some real players to help us to be the team we want to be."
