Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou retains the support of the club, despite the team’s faltering form, although one crucial game could be on the horizon, according to latest reports.

Spurs have won just one of their last six Premier League games since the start of December, and fell to a 1-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day. It was their second loss in a row, following the 6-3 home defeat against Liverpool just a few days earlier.

The results and performances have led to criticism towards Postecoglou with the team sitting in 12th place in the league table. The Daily Mail reports that the Australian maintains the support of the club’s hierarchy, but the Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool has been earmarked as ‘key’ for the manager.

The report says that Postecoglou’s position remains ‘safe for now’ but there is an ‘aknowledgement’ that there needs to be an upturn in results. Spurs’ progress into the Carabao Cup semi-final is reported to work in the manager’s favour.

Tottenham take on league leaders Liverpool in the final four of the competition over two legs. The first leg is scheduled to take place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on January 8, with the second leg taking place at Anfield on February 6.

Crashing out of the competition, as well as a continuation of the poor form in the Premier League, could potentially be a ‘factor’ in how the club view the Australian’s future. Spurs remain in the Europa League, with qualification for the knockout stages of the European competition also a factor.

Tottenham are back in Premier League action on Sunday, when they take on relegation-threatened Wolves at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Wolves have won their last two games since the arrival of new manager Vitor Pereira with the team beating Manchester United 2-0 on Boxing Day.
