Ex-Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has not only defended his comments that he made regarding Ange Postecoglou last Thursday - he has now doubled down on them.

Carragher had criticised the Tottenham boss for not changing how his team played when they were 3-0 up against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup. Although Spurs won the game 4-3, there was a nervousness in the team after United almost made a comeback.

Postecoglou named dropped the Sky pundit in his post-match interview and, although he deemed his opinion valid, ultimately stated that it wasn't important to him. Despite this, Carragher had more to say on Tottenham before the clash with Liverpool.

He said on Sky Sports: "That’s my job! That’s what I get paid for! (upsetting managers). But listen, to be honest we say things and have to give our opinions on teams in certain moments and I’m certainly not in the job of trying to upset managers or get into a back-and-forth with a manager.

"Managers have a much tougher job than I do. Their team plays, the team I talk about or analyse. My team never loses, that’s the nature of the job we’re in so it’s a much tougher job than mine. Certainly I have a respect for all managers, particularly Postecoglou, and as I said they’re the most entertaining team in the league.

"I just feel at certain times they could tweak it to win certain games and maybe they’d be higher up the table. That doesn’t mean I’m right, that’s just the way I see football.

"Ange Postecoglou sees it slightly differently but he’s been a breath of fresh air for the Premier League, he’s been absolutely fantastic since he came in and long may that continue.”

Carragher's criticism didn't end there. It was his post-match opinion which was harder-hitting. He mentions Arne Slot's pre-match conference where the Dutchman seemed to praise Postecoglou's attacking footballing, deeming it a "joy to watch" and admitting he "is a fan."

“That press conference from Slot on Friday was hilarious. People thought he was defending Postecoglou," said Carragher following Spurs’ 6-3 defeat to league leaders Liverpool as he doubled down on the Tottenham boss.

"I don’t believe that for one minute that he was actually [defending him]. I thought he went too far, it was that obvious.

"He (Postecoglou) was desperate for Tottenham to play exactly the same way as they did against Manchester United and Liverpool could have scored 10. In that press conference, everyone I spoke to - Liverpool supporters - it was obvious.”

The defeat cranked up the pressure on Postecoglou, who appears to be growing impatient with questions over Spurs' approach. "I've been really patient the last 18 months, answering the same questions over and over again," said Postecoglou.

"If people want me to change my approach, it's not going to change. We're doing it for a reason, we're doing it because we think it'll help us be successful."
