Ange Postecoglou sends message to Tottenham fans on Man Utd atmosphere: ‘I want it like Galatasaray'
Ange Postecoglou has called on Tottenham fans to create a hostile atmosphere for their Carabao Cup showdown with Manchester United, saying: “I would love it to be like Galatasaray.”
Spurs host United in a huge game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday and Postecoglou believes home supporters have a vital role to play.
Postecoglou’s side were greeted by a cauldron of noise when they played away at Galatasaray and Rangers in the Europa League this season, and he wants Spurs fans to create a similar atmosphere.
Asked about the away end at Southampton taking aim at Spurs chairman Daniel Levy on Sunday, Postecoglou said: “That is for the supporters. I have said a million times, they have the right to express whatever they need to express. But hopefully they got to enjoy the other night, it was a special performance by the lads, and we are going to need them [against United].
“I have spoken about the atmosphere we got at Galatasaray and Ibrox. I would love that to be our atmosphere on Thursday because it will certainly help us in overcoming a really tough opponent in a really big game.”
Spurs beat Manchester City 2-1 in the last round on a special night in north London.
Postecoglou said: “That night against City, it was a big game for us and the whole atmosphere that night, the way we started and the way we played the whole night… City were good on the night as well and it was a cracking game.
“It had a real cup atmosphere and we are going to need that energy. All these games tend to be pretty tight games and if you get the energy of the crowd behind you, it can certainly lift the players. For us, it is going to be an important factor.”
