Ange Postecoglou set to be without four Tottenham players from Everton defeat vs Hoffenheim

Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham options vs Hoffenheim are extremely limited to say the least

At a time when Tottenham desperately require a win, Ange Postecoglou has very little options to choose from when it comes to his team selection. The Spurs boss had to make do without ten of his players for Sunday's 3-2 defeat at Everton and, unfortunately, the list of absentees is only increasing.

Dominic Solanke became the latest player to enter the treatment room at Hotspur Way, joining Guglielmo Vicario, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Destiny Udogie, Rodrigo Bentancur, Yves Bissouma, Brennan Johnson, Wilson Odobert and Timo Werner who are already in there. The mounting injuries are hitting Tottenham hard right now and Postecoglou could name an extremely strong side from the players who are out of action at present.

Now set to take on Hoffenheim in the Europa League on Thursday evening, Postecoglou will be without a further four players from the matchday squad that he named for last weekend's game against Everton. Two of those set to miss out are key players as well.

The first of those is January signing Antonin Kinsky. The Czech ace has made a big impression since his transfer from Slavia Prague but he won't be able to feature in Europe for Spurs until the knockout round of the competition.

That is because changes to a club's 25-man squad can only be made before the knockout stage once the league phase has come to a conclusion. As per the rules, teams can only make a total of three changes to their playing squad for the next round of the competition.

In terms of the European squad that Postecoglou named back in September, Djed Spence is ineligible to play after missing out on the cut. As Tottenham were only able to name two of the required four club-trained players, their squad size decreased to 23 as a result and that meant the right-back and Sergio Reguilon missed out completely.

Spurs now have a real lack of full-options going into Thursday's game in Germany, with Spence such a key player for the team of late following some big performances at left-back. Finally, Yang Min-hyeok will not be an option for Postecoglou as, just like Kinsky, he is also not registered for the Europa League league phase.

The 18-year-old has yet to make an appearance for Tottenham since linking up with the first-team squad at the turn of the year. Yang was an unused substitute for the 1-0 win over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup, before making the bench for the first time in the Premier League at Goodison Park last weekend.

Far from an ideal situation for Postecoglou with the absence of the quartet limiting his options even further, the Australian mentioned in his post-match press conference on Sunday that he may only have one player to welcome back to his playing squad in Hoffenheim.

Asked if Solanke's injury only increases the need for more players, he said: "I mean it doesn't really, I mean I think it was pretty evident before that, but yeah, like I said, we had 11 or 12 missing today and apart from, we've got to see how Rodri's [Rodrigo Bentancur] going through the protocols.

"Apart from him, no-one else is really due to come back. We've got a European game on Thursday, we obviously can't use Djed or or Reguilon in that, so we're in this situation."

Very much a tricky situation for Postecoglou with a real lack of players at a time when they desperately need a win, the 59-year-old has to find a way to mastermind a victory to ease the pressure on his shoulders right now.
